We are writing this from a cafe in Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. It´s about 40 degrees outside (45 degrees if you believe the thermometer!)
Our whistle stop tour of Brazil was great. 3 days in Rio started with a day of glorious sun so we caught up on some sleep on Copacabana beach. Unfortunately the next two days were a complete wash out as Rio got the worst rainfall for years and the city stopped dead with rivers flowing down the streets and the main tunnel connecting the Zona Nord and Zona Sud collapsing at one end. This actually worked quite well for us as we spent two days absorbing the real city rather than just the tourist attractions.
We enjoyed a tram ride up a hillside to get some great views of the city and also visited the Maracana football stadium which apparently holds 200,000 people.
A short 24 hour bus trip later (which was actually quite good fun) we arrived in Foz do Iguaçu, a small city near to the Brazilian vantage point of the Iguaçu Falls, a jaw dropping series of waterfalls (4 times wider than Niagara) that still remains relatively unspoilt. This side offered amazing
panoramic views of the Falls.
The next day we then travelled across the border to Puerto Iguazu in Argentina where we were able to view the Falls from up close, so close in fact that we ended up being drenched under one of them in an inflatable boat.
Had my (James) first Argentinian steak and red wine - fantastic, going to enjoy this country!
We are having a more relaxing day today before we leave for Buenos Aires by bus this afternoon, a mere 18 hours!
