still under the weather and barely eating i signed up for a three day jungle trip. I really wanted to do more and head deep into the jungle and visit some crazy amazonian witch doctor and drink and eat wierd amazonian animals but after my disatarous boat ride and the fact that i didnīt have any malaria pills i decided on a bit of a tamer version.
(for those of you that want to know... i looked everywhere and couldnīt find malaria prevention tablets to buy... you seem only to be able to buy the medication if you get malaria here... well at least that is good to know!)
on top of this tho there are not many mosquitos in manaus as it is on the rio negro and apparently the mosiquitos donīt like the black water. my jungle trip was there also and i havnīt had one mosquito bite yet.... so touch wood i donīt get malaria any time soon.
Anyways the trip started with a boat out to the meeting of the waters which is pretty cool to see how the black and brown waters come side by side and donīt mix due to temprature velocity
our jungle guideaffectionatly know as brazilian guy... as he kept calling me australian guy.
and the density of the water... and then back up river to our campsite of our jungle trips.
I will race through the journal and let the pictures describe what we saw as i would say that about somes up the jungle trip.... the first afternoon was piranha fishing which was really cool unfortunaltely i didnīt catch one but i had a few bites and i helped the guy next to me unhook a couple because he was petrified of the fish flapping around. It was then back for dinner and then out for cayman spotting by torch light i was a bit suspect about this as i didnīt see one set of eyes from the boat for a good hour but then out of no where our guide ripped one from the water and we all got to get a look. that night we slept back at the camp in hammacks...(i thought i would never see them again but i spoke too soon.)
the next day we had a jungle walk and and over night stay in the jungle. i wont write up the descriptions for each photo here but it was amazing all the things you
can obtain from the jungle... it seemed ever tree had some kind of purpose from medicines to food to rubber the list goes on. the walk was really interesting although we didnīt see too many animals outside of the bugs and birds.
that evening we packed everthing for our overnight stay and said goodbye to the fairyīs who had only signed up for a 2 day adventure... it had been rainning on and off the whole jungle trip so we didnīt have dry wood for fire but we managed ok now that we only had a smaller and more efficient group... the barbeque chicken was gold and our shelter was setup in no time which was really cool. We finished the night on a bottle of cashassa (no idea how to spell it but brazilian alchol basically.) and hit the hay.
the next morning we did a massive jungle walk much better than the first day as we had a group of 4 fit guys who could really power through the jungle and get out to see a bit more wild life... here we crossed an insanely big taranchala where our guide was crazy enough to pick it
up!!! he threatened to throw it at me which almost made me crap my pants but i got pretty close for some good video and photo.
later that day we headed back to manaus and a decent shower and thats about it. so now i am chillen at the hostel waiting for a plane out of here... i am sure i will get out of here one day the trick is i canīt pay by credit card so i have to get an insane amount of money out of the bank to fund the ridiculusly expensive flights from here... and the banks open monday so we will see.
i am definately ready for columbia though... (here is
my route through brazil )
i loved some parts of brazil but it will be good to catch up with my friends sonia and diana and take a vacation from my travelling in South America. fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.
ciao.
