Hello from Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Fin del Mundo!
I arrived in Ushuaia this morning, after a 3.5 hrs flight from Buenos Aires, and after the heat in BsAs, the 7 degree Celsius temps here in Ushuaia are a welcomed changed! It is awesome to see the snow on the mountains all around and this touristy, little, most southern city on earth, is bustling with life. The spring tourist season is in full swing, and people from all over the world are in town, preparing to embark on their cruises towards Antarctica from this port town in Tierra del Fuego! Aside from the "richer" cruise crowd, there is of course also a healthy number of Gore-Tex Sporting hikers around who are here to explore the mountains all around! I am at the five star Freestyle hostel (yep- there are such things) for the next five days now and am looking forward to hiking excursions in the Tierra del Fuego National Park and hopefully a boat excursion through the Beagle Channel in the days aheadl. So stay tuned for updates and pics in the next few days! Since this cool hostel even has wi-fi access, I should be able to keep the blog rolling. As for today, walking around town was sufficient for the first day here, and below are a few pictures of the harbor and Ushuaia. After all, a little rest is in order once in a while, even while traveling, and the couches in the sun-room overlooking the Beagle Channel at the rooftop of the hostel are a great place to relax and chill for the evening. So stay tuned ... adios amigos SL
