First Sight of Perito Moreno Glacier
At Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina A full bus transported me to Los Glaciares National Park and we travelled along the Lago Argentino where we admired the stunning views out of the window. First of all, we stopped for our first sight of Perito Moreno Glacier. We then drove to the port where we joined a boat trip to the glacier. The description of the glacier is going to have a lot of superlatives! The views were amazing....it was a humble experience seeing nature at its fullest! We got very close to the glacier and I braved it out on the deck despite the cold, wind and rain!!!
After the boat trip, we hopped back on the bus and we were dropped off to begin our adventure on the boardwalks. We spent 1-2 hours walking on the boardwalks and admiring the glacier at varying angles and taking our usual tons of photos!!! You could see the blue in the glacier and, regularly, bits of ice kept crashing in the lake. The noise was thunderous...so much so that when I heard it for the first time, it made me jump!! As well as taking photos, I experimented with my video function on the camera to capture the

On the boardwalk, I met up with Adriana and her family, the nice Argentine family I met one evening on the Cerro Frias excursion, on the boardwalks. We had a nice catch up in broken Spanish and English. They will be in Chalten at the same time as me so it is likely that we will probably meet again.
We eventually reached the "Summit" where the buses meet tourists and tourists gatecrash the facilities! I was overwhelmed with the sheer amount of tourists visiting the glacier and crowds occupying the facilities. It was claustophobic to say the least even waiting outside for our bus! I struggled to find space in the cafe and felt the other facilities are not adequate enough to accommodate the high number of visitors. I feel there could be a better infrustructure for visitors as well as promoting responsible tourism. I noticed there was more or less no access provision for the disabled travellers. I did not notice any ramps on the boardwalks thus no access for wheelchair users. I asked myself, "How would a

Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina disabled traveller enjoy all the views offered of the glacier?" I was speaking to Noelina, my dorm mate at my hostel, and she said it is a similar story across Argentina. I guess, I am seeing this from European eyes and maybe it is not so much an issue compared to back home. Maybe it is improving as I understand there are accessible ramps being implemented on the boardwalks at Igassu Falls. So there is hope.
After the crowds at the "Summit", our bus made our way back to El Calafate stopping near Lago Ranco for another photo stop!
In all it was a great day in seeing such an amazing sight!!!
