When we woke up Saturday morning and found that it was still raining, we more than a little disappointed and were trying to figure out what we were going to do if we had to spend another day indoors. Luckily, at about 10:30, the rain quit and the clouds cleared. We motivated quickly and made our way to a trailhead in the mountains that led to a mountain hut known as Refugio Frey. We had originally planned to stay the night in the Refugio, but the weather forecasts were not good and the prospect of getting stuck in the snow above tree line wasn´t all that appealing.

The hike was absolutely awesome though. Because we were nervous about the weather, we powered up the mountain and got to the top in two and a half hours. At the top, we were greeted by knee deep snow, nasty wind and a new storm blowing in. Turns out that nothing inspires fear in hikers more than the thought of getting caught in the mountains without sleeping bags or cold weather gear. We literally ran down the mountain, got back below tree line where the weather was much better and made our

way to the bottom. Well worth it though. After the hike, we were tired and ready for bed, but not so exhausted that we couldn´t eat. We returned to the Tarquino/Hobbit Steakhouse for an encore.

Hot Diggity
Wow, was anyone even at the Refugio? I admire the perseverance to get to the top of that thing! The one thing that you should have known is that they have blankets in the refugio (ones that get washed once a year) that you could have spooned a smelly frenchman under that night to stay warm. Your loss.

Rootsy!
No wonder I'm not hearing too much from Rebekah these days...your journal entries are so complete and the pictures just awesome. Looking at this entry, the feeling is rootsy! Rebekah grew up in very similar surroundings doing the same sort of hikes as a child in Alaska. Only her size is different. Glad that you heeded weather warnings. Rebekah is well known for forging on no matter what! Maybe you guys are a good influence on her in that area.
