First day in the "Lake district", San Carlos de Bariloche. Beautiful scenery of aqua blue lakes surrounded by the Andes. The lake water was cold, clean, and refreshing (we were fortunate to be in the area during an abnormally hot streak, which made swimming more bearable). Also, the town has some great parillas / restaurants.

Town of San Carlos de Bariloche, from top of Cerro Otto. "Bariloche" coming from a native Mapuche word meaning "people from behind the mountain". The Vuriloche pass was used by the Mapuches to cross the Andes, and was kept secret from the European priests for a long time. Settled primarily by Austrians and Germans about 1895.
