Hello All,
Today we had an early wake up as we had to walk to Los Heroes to get the airport bus into the airport. The hostel we are staying at offer a deal to the airport for $15,000 peso for 2 people, but the bus is a 15 min walk and 1,500 each, big saving.
We were flying to Buenos Aires today and very excited to be going there, we are couch surfing here so hoping it will go well. Our direct flight is at 1230, it takes two hours and was about £110. The bus would have taken 24 hours+ via Mendoza and is about the same price as the flight.
The flight, like most things in South America was delayed, only by 2 hours but we had to find Internet to let our couch surfers know as they had kindly offered to pick us up from the airport in Buenos Aires. We tried to contact them in the airport but had no reply, so had our fingers crossed that they got our message and would pick us up later!!!
The flight was fine, we had the
Toronto Argentina Olympic team on our flight, and also we got an airplane lunch that was really good.
Once we arrived in BA we found Pablo was not here, so we panicked!! We had no contact information or address unless we could get WiFi but there was none in the airport L. I had searched everywhere and found at last a place for free Internet; about an hour after we had arrived Vick tapped me on the shoulder with Pablo!! Phew!!!
So after saying our hello’s (in Argentina you all kiss once on the cheek) we made our way to Lomas de Zamora, where we were staying for the next few days.
The traffic was mental so it took around 2 hours.
We were welcomed into their house by Romina, Pablo’s wife. Their house is amazing; they had a rear house as well as their main house. We were given the rear house all to ourselves!! WOW!! They have two dogs called Tota and Bruce and two cats.
The house was really nice: bed, bathroom and kitchen plus a reading area upstairs and front room. They had
put a ‘welcome home Neil & Vicky’ sign up too. Looks like we landed on our feet with these couch surfers- we were very lucky!!! They were both really nice people, and both spoke very good English. They are both accountants.
When we arrived about 6pm, Romina had cooked a cake and bread for us to have afternoon tea with them. They eat late here (10ish), so about our dinnertime they have afternoon tea and cake to keep them going. They had planned an Asado for the evening; this is a BBQ over wood and has lots of different meats. My heaven!! We went to the butchers with them to see their butcher shops and the different cuts of meat.
Once back, Pablo started the Asado while we chatted with Romina while she prepped a pumpkin roast in the oven, and we drank the wine we had just given them as a gift!! (Not the best guests ever :P)
We had a great night drinking, chatting and eating. The Asado was amazing; we had sausages, blood sausage (black pudding), ribs and steak. I loved it drinking a really nice Malbec and
meat on my plate!!! Living the dream!!!
We chatted until 1am, getting to know them and their culture. As they were working all day tomorrow we agreed to cook dinner for us all tomorrow night.
Our first night couch surfing in Buenos Aires was a great success, as we were shattered we must have fallen asleep as soon as our heads touched the pillow!!!
Night all,
Love N&V X
