After the epic bus rides over the border we were finally in Argentina. It was also the first stop on the five things we have to see in South America. We had arrived in Puerto Iguazu a bit of a nothing town but the base for access to Iguazu National Park. Arriving a bit too late to make a full day out at the park we set about killing the day. After sorting out details for the next day and booking a bus for the trip to Benos Aires we settled in to our new hostel for the night. Turns out that we picked a gem of a hostel. It was a great place to sit back relax have a few beers. We had arrived on the night that they usually have gnocchi so we had some delivered to us and wasted away the night chatting with the other guests. Forster made a new Argentinian friend who was in a band of some sort. So I left them to it and went and watched a movie then went to bed.
Next day we were up early to go see Iguazu National Park. After grabbing a quick bite to eat we
were on our way. A bus took us from the town out to the park. After paying our admission we set about trying to figure the best route for the day. Deciding that the train to the devil's throat would be the longest wait we went there first to tick it off. After travelling to the platforms on the world's smallest, slowest and pretty damn useless train we got our first glimpse of the river and the mist of the falls. It's a short stroll from the station to the devils throat across steel platforms. It's hard with my very limited writing ability to describe the devil's throat and the feeling upon first seeing the falls. I'm pretty sure this is an entry that Forster should have written. I will keep it simple. It's fucking awesome you should leave whatever you are doing at the moment go buy a plane ticket and get your ass to Iguazu. After a few minutes of standing in the spray from the falls and letting it all soak in it was photo time. I'm usually pretty good at keeping my stuff charged. However on this occasion I realised that I had forgotten to charge
my camera. So I only have five photos of the falls. Which pretty much was the dumbest thing I have done this whole trip. Luckily for me I am not flying solo on this journey and Forster was able to take about a million photos and video. Deciding we had seen enough of the main attraction we headed for the other areas of the park.
After wandering aimlessly for about ten minutes we realised that we were on the wrong path to the next part of the park. Once we had backtracked and found the correct path we decided we would do the inferior path. The path isn't actually inferior it's the lower of the two paths. But the naming of the path does make you smile. Over the course of the next little while we walked away along steel platforms stopping at every waterfall that you could see. Turns out there are a lot of them that and some of them are more spectacular than others. The main point of this path is to get to the great lookouts that see across the falls. That and it led to something that we just had to do. That morning
we had bought tickets for a boat ride into the falls. So we made our way all the way down the path and to the boats. But before getting on the boats and getting ourselves completely soaked we decided to take the small boat over to an island in the middle of the falls. After going to all the lookouts on the island it was time to head back and get ourselves on a boat into the falls. Basically what happens is you get a boat the goes around to see the falls up close. You are then told to put away you cameras and prepare to take a shower. Then a crazy man has fun making you get a wet as possible. At one point he made a sharp turn into a wave and I went from relatively dry to completely drenched in under a second. Poor little kid in front of me wasn't expecting it and was pretty upset about the whole affair.
After our little boat trip we got our stuff and decided we would need a nice long walk in the sun. So we made our way to the superior path. The superior path walks
The falls
Fucking epic. you along the top of the falls. Chilling out and just taking a stroll along the falls was a good way to end the day. We headed back to town grabbed some supplies, grabbed some booze, grabbed our bags and made our way to the bus station. Along this whole trip and even before we got here we kept hearing about Argentine buses and how good they are. So with that in mind we were eager to board our first Argentine bus of the journey and make our way to Buenos Aires.
