We arrived in the early morning in Mendoza following a lovely bus journey with Andersmarr which was even nicer than the last company, newer buses more movies and again the food was ok, we even managed to get a glass of wine! We were both very surprised at how big Mendoza was. We were expecting a small town but this place was like a small city. We booked into the Lagares hostel which was a short walk out of town. But it was very nice and Havier who runs the place couldn't be anymore helpful. We had a little wait before our room was ready so Ian sat down to watch united play everton. We got talking to a few people in the hostel who told us to rent bikes and cycle around the vineyards ourselves rather than doing the organised tour. The following day with a few others we had rounded up in the hostel as Ian's drinking buddies we headed of to go wine tasting. We took the public bus to Mr Hugos bike rental, collected our bikes and headed of to one of the smaller vineyards to start of our day. The road is pretty busy along the
way and the heat was not making it any easier. At the first vineyard we took a small tour before sitting down to taste all of there produce some 8 different wines. The girl giving out the tastings kept giving Laura each taster so we all had to take turns drinking her glass throughout the tasting. Now i am by no way a wine drinker, i'll have the odd glass here and there but i was really surprised at how nice the wines were. We wish we could have brought some home for the wine drinkers in our family who would of really appreciated them more than me. After our tasting we headed of to our second vineyard the next one a bit bigger and a bit more fancy. We had some lovely food with our next tasting and it was so nice sitting looking out over this beautiful vineyard. It was the same at the next one very fancy and very commercial again we sat on the deck in the glorious sunshine looking out over the vineyard! After visiting 3 vineyards it was getting late so we decided to head back. Along the way a police motorbike just drove
behind us for a lil while, maybe there just checking to make sure your not a bit worse for wear or maybe there job is to pick tourists out of ditches i don't no haha! Even though we are not big wine drinkers we still had a great day and would reccomend it to all not just the wine drinkers.
The following day we had heard that there was a small carnival type parade happening in the local park we decided we should head up to see what it was all about. The park was full of people when we got there and we were only out of the taxi a minute when we got hit with our first lot of foam from some of the people. Everyone was carrying these cans of foam and there all spraying each other with it. As we stood out a mile we got a fair bit of it as you will see by the photos but it was all in good fun. We were only saying how much trouble it would cause in Dublin if you just sprayed some stranger with foam, it would not go down well at all! There was
just a small parade with a few of the carnival dancers and drummers but every time the announcer shouted puma, everyone in the crowd sprayed there foam into the air! We were all covered in the stuff by the end, but it dried off for us to have a lovely meal with some people from the hostel and a few beers!
Tomorrow we have another night bus to Buenos Aires which after talking to so many people we cannot wait to see.
Hope all is well at home guys, not long till we will be home now!
Lots of Love
Ian and Laura
