It's summer school holidays...again....
We left Bangkok at the end of the school year...direction, Buenos Aires to settle for a full year in Argentina. Leslie and Tiffany joined their new school year at the middle of the year. Top school... many new friends...morning in Castellano, afternoon in English...and two days ago, it was already the end of the official school year.
There are not many expats in Argentina. There are many foreigners, but they blend as locals pretty fast. We are no expats here, neither locals...neither really forgeigners...but we moved here for a year....few months ago. This is for those who are joining the band on this entry. We moved for a year here as "perma-toursits". Problem is, none of the top schools, internationally recognized one are downtown...so we had to do our shopping around and settled for St Hildas...far way from dowtown. Tiffany ended her year with a nice 85%, and Tiffany 92%...so they are ready to enjoy great holdidays....long summer holidays....as the school year is only starting end of February. So till there...we are on the road...
The last day of school was Wednesday. Thursday night was the end of
the year ceremony at school, and by 6pm on Thursday, I gave back the keys to our lovely flat. We are now officially homeless till the end of February. Thursday was an intersting day...moving bags around with downtown blocked in the morning due to a chemical accident in the port...and an afternoon nightmare of floodings...not easy but did it!
The last evening at school was great. You cannot imagine how we have been welcomed by everybody here...kids have friends...me too! It was late, we had to drive back to downtown to check in to our hotel for our last night in BA...and fun, the Sheraton put us in the Presidential Suite for our short night. First for three of us...private sauna and the all lot....but don't get too excited, it's an old hotel....total cost, 42usd a night...I know, it's cheaper than a hostal!
Early morning rise, and we made our way to Aeroparque...for a mad...crowded first day of the school holidays. This airport hold something special for me. It's here that 6 years ago I made a call to my lawyer to get the news that Leslie would be living with me few weeks
later...and the sad news that it was far away from being done for Tiffany. It was for me the begining of the end...Well today, you know the story, and being here with them is something really special! Yes, I'm an happy Dad!
First flight in a while for Tiffany and Leslie...this time south, to San Carlos de Bariloche. Been here twice, but for once, when we arrived, the sun was out....with a cool 12 degrees! Spring time! Got a rental car for the next 2 weeks, as we are going to drive all the way south to El Calafate, and back to Bariloche just before Christmas. Got even a full explanation of how to change a tyre...good chance it will happen....
Leslie hadn't play golf for weeks, so we made our way first to the Llao Llao. I love this hotel....but this being already high seasons, the price are today slighty outrageous for a triple room. Stay there twice, the last time, we drink the all wine list...and they even ended giving us the wine list....really cool place...but better stay just before the price hike!
We than made our way to
El Bolson, 130km south to spend our night. This time it's hostal....cool one at la Mandala...and we were the only ones staying here. And by the way, it was more expensive than our last night in a Presidential Suite...that's life! Little point, I find it pretty cute how Leslie and Tiffany can jump from a basic hotstel...to a top suite...and find life is still pretty cool! We were just passing through....but still had a great dinner of lamb and bife de chorizo in a local parilla...and by the way, not many tourists around here!
Early morning, early rise, and 180km south, we we already in Esquel. Here, the landscape has already changed a lot...very dry...and still very sunny!
Original plan...rafting....reality...not many people around and a water at 9 degrees....well....rafting...maybe not. Not enough people to do zip lining...so we settle for an afternoon of siesta...and horse riding. Pretty cool too!
Went to see the departure of the local steam train, but was not ready to spend 80usd for 3 for 2 hours on a hard bench...time to relax at the hostal, and get ready for our next long day.
I'm writting this in a rush as I have no idea if and when we are going to have internet access next. Well, at least not for the next 3 nights. As we are on the road for at east 10 weeks, a lot more to come, so I'm trying not to get too behind from the start!
Enjoy the pics...we did....next stop...way south...
