Happy clubbers
Opera Bay time!! (from left: Josh, Lisa, John, Mike, Andrew, Chris, James and Jo) Pretty quiet week really, on wednesday we went out for Jamies last night, we drank in the hostel and only went to one bar, then came home and drank a bit more, but everyone was all together and we were all very merry to say the least, it was such a good night. Friday a new girl arrived, Chloe. We'd all been told she was 42, and were therefore kind of dreading her arrival, but in walks this 23 year old. Of course we all thought we were very witty saying how good she looks for her age. Friday night i went to see Sin City - very graphically violent, but good. On Sat we all got up and sat in our pyjamas with beer and crisps to watch the England game, then i went with Mike, Josh and Chris to the national art museum - it was sooo cool, in the one building i saw works by Degas, Picasso, Rembrandt, Gougain, Mark Rothko, Monet...the list goes on. How very cultured of me! Saturday night was the usual clubbing fest in Opera Bay, good night had by all. Sunday wasnt too much of a write off though, i got up and went with Chloe, Lisa, Andrew and Mike to San Telmo, probably the most touristy neighbourhood of BA. Its one of the oldest parts of the city, with wonderful architecture and cobbled streets...It specialises in antiques, stall upon stall upon stall of them - some fascinating (old grammaphones and telephones and books) some not so interesting (spoons and knives and general junk) There was the obligatory tango in the street of course, and loads of different street performers. Everywhere you went you could hear foreign voices, Americans and Germans and Brits - not so good, i suddenly felt overprotective of my BA, and wanted these damn tourists out! Oh the irony 😊
Monday i had a good day at school, got so utterly sick of doing the same - 'tell me in complete sentences the difference between these pictures', i just took in a leaflet about Iguazu and had a general chat with them because their project this term is 'living beings'. So much better, and the 7ths was the usual rewarding experience, so i actually left school with a spring in my step! Having one good child, with an answer you've never heard before, or something thats out of the blue, wholly cancels out all the previous shitty monotony. Usually i ask them to tell the me story, given a storyboard. Often the kids just take each picture at a time and say ' in this picture the woman is cooking, and here she goes back into the house' etc, but this one boy the other day blew me away when he started with...'once upon a time there was a mother and a girl called Jenny and a boy called Tom...' its such a silly little thing, but in the course of 6 weeks, not one child had actually named the characters in the story. I could have kissed him for making my day! Monday night was the asado, we consumed among us 8 kilos of meat - thats what i call a bbq!
Tuesday i had a good session at the hospital, a new guy turned up, and he was so utterly adorable, all smiley face and enthusiastic. Id brought an article about hurricane Katrina and its aftermath to discuss, and at the end of the class he gingerly produced his own that he'd printed off. SOOO sweet. After that i went for a bit of a fine wine shopping trip. I dont know what it is, but this country has turned me into a glutton. Im loving expensive wines (expensive for them, about 4 quid for us) Its just because its so cheap for me, but the quality is like buying a 10, fifteen quid bottle back home. Im going to be such a wine snob when i get back, just warning you. Tuesday night was another Travellers meal at Grants, all you can eat, and free this time! I was in seventh heaven. Wed night was Chris' last night; we all went to Desnivel, the really nice parilla in San Telmo we went to for Pauls last night. Was so full of food, only managed a cocktail at one bar afterwards before falling asleep and being carried home, fighting to stay awake. Today school was good, i love the 4ths and 7ths, it was the usual chilled session, then came home and bid a teary farewell to Chris - gonna miss him coz he's been one of my best friends here. Went to see Maria, nice session, actually did some beneficial grammar i think...came home and ordered in. Me Jo and Jodie have to get up at 6am tomoro to go south, so think im gonna have a pretty early night. Not much more chat, will let you know how the big trip south goes!!
