Good evening bloggers, saturday evening here in BA and another warm day in the capital. It has been a week of school again, with the focus on a test that I wrote yesterday. The levels at school are divided into three week blocks and my level drew to a close friday with my first written test,my first test in a long while.Let me just say I am not good with these things and had a difficult week thinking about the upcoming test and my brain! I get Spanish,I hear it,I understand it I can even read some of it now but put a verb or grammar infront of me and I am like a deer in the head lights. But I soldier on with grammar and eventually some of it sinks in, I think and hope.It does not help the confidence to be in a class with all the young keen minds of travellers from the four corners of the world, many of whom are on month 3,6 or 8 of their travels through South America so already pretty fluent.Regardless I am here to do my best and WTF right?
My studying is done in the park or here at the apt and I
have put up posters on the walls with verbs and notes to help me absorb. I passed on a night out at a "Parrilla", pronounced parrisha here in BA,thursday night so that I could study!!! Well I am pleased to report that I passed the test and will be starting 'principante 2' on Monday morning!!
Such a relief to get the test behind me.I have signed up for the next level but not committed to the three week session I will do it week by week and decide as I go along whether to continue at school or go to Iguasu Falls or Uruguay instead.I am torn by my love of travel and need to see things and my desire to get better at Spanish.Time will tell what wins out.
Today I went with a friend from school to the Palermo part of town, to the market held there on the weekends. Palermo is a lovely part ot town with tree lined streets and beautiful buildings. The trip marked another first for me with my first "Subte" (subway) and "Colectivo" (bus) ride. All went well I can report, though I am still a bit freaked out from the attempted theft
of my camera a couple of weeks ago so was on guard when in the subway and put my camera into my shoulder bag and out of sight till we hit the street again.A gorgeous day here sunny and quite warm so the city is alive. The area where the parket is set up is surrounded by bars and restaurants so we had plenty of opportunity to rehydrate and watch the people go by.A very pleasant day all around. Tomorrow I am going to go to San Telmo again to see the market there and also to catch some Tango but have decided to also stop at the museum by the pink house celebrating the bi centennial and also perhaps the Confiteria Ideal, which is a turn of the century Tango Dance hall.I will let you know if and when I get there. I trust all is well with you all above the equator and wish you all buenas noches.
