Day 20 and 21-25th & 26th September
Well one out of the two of us slept well! Ellory had taken a sleeping pill (smart boy) and was out like a light. I on the other hand, nearly froze to death in the strong AC. Bad times. However it wasn’t too bad as I knew I would probably be able to catch up on some sleep on our next epic bus journey. That’s right, we were off to Buenos Aires! We had learnt our lesson from the grim bus journey before and booked ourselves on an all singing all dancing first class fancy bus, commonly known as a ‘cama suite’(that’s posh to you and me), for 70 pounds each, we decided it was worth it. We packed up our things again and said goodbye to Clare, Ben and Scott who were heading north to Rio the next day. Safe travels guys, it was great to meet you!
We were soon boarding the bus and we were impressed! We had MASSIVE seats which reclined all the way back and a foot rest that also went horizontal so you could have a proper bed. A blanket and pillow was included and we
had our own TV! Pretty sweet we thought, we even managed to tell the staff that Ellory was a veggie so he could eat the food provided (yes we got food on this one!) and not just biscuits and Pringles. We weren’t expecting much but we got loads! There was a pre dinner drink and nibbles, Ell had the biggest glass of whiskey in the world, seriously, it was big enough to fell an elephant. I had some form of spirit with lemonade, couldn’t possible tell you what it was, but it was pleasantly strong! We then got a huge dinner with more wine and then champagne to follow! By this time it was the 26th September over in the UK and we had a drink to celebrate our 3 month wedding anniversary.
After this epic dinner the only thing we could possibly do is turn our seats into beds, cover ourselves in the blankets and drift off to sleep in a mild alcoholic fog......
7.30am and we are nearing Buenos Aires, to be honest it was a little bit too early for both of our liking but hey. We pulled into the bus terminal, retrieved our bags
and wandered off in search of a cab. Ellory spotted a homeless lady and being the sweetie he is, handed over the biscuits and crackers we’d been given on the bus (seriously, you think we had any room to eat anything else?!), she was so grateful, bless her. So, good deed of the day done we jumped in a cab and went off to our hostel.
Buenos Aires looks a hell of a lot like Paris! It’s really strange. But being pretty tired we just went straight up to our room at the hostel and had a shower and a nap. As we’d arrived so early, we were awake and ready to see the city around lunchtime. We’d been told about an antiques market nearby so we went to have a look. It was actually really interesting. A lot of it was tat, but Ellory had to stop me from buying these gorgeous leather holdalls, I was so so tempted, but knew that shipping them back to the UK may cost more than the things themselves so had to resist. However one day I may come back to B.A just to get them! There were a lot of things
we liked the look of to decorate our future house, but most of them were so delicate it just wouldn’t be practical to carry them. Dammit.
However I consoled myself with my first Argentinean steak! It was pretty flipping tasty! That done we wandered back to the hostel and chilled out for the rest of the evening. The weather was looking pretty poor for the next few days and we hoped it would clear up.
