Hello everyone,
It has been quite a while since we wrote and like always it's the harassment from loved ones that prompts us to write once again... The thing is that not much is new!! It's getting hard to write about what we're doing when we have a routine. But I guess we can scrounge around in our memories to find SOMETHING interesting to write about...
We went out for Saint Patricks day here, and although there are very few Irish here or Irish decendents, it seems that Argentina siezes any opportunity to party, and since SP day fell on friday , the motivation to party was even higher. We went out with Lau and Tati, two of our good Argentine friends whom Jenica knew from Bariloche, Samu the Spaniard, and some randoms. Well there was lots of dancing to bad english music, but if you're with good people the music usually doesn't matter so much, and I ended up scoring two free dinners at the bar/restaurant that we were at since I went outside for some air, ended up talking to some man outside about how much I liked Argentina and the food and the people (typical things you have
Friends
Uban (France) Tati (Argentina) Samu (Spain) Relaxing and chatting in up. to say when an Argentine asks you how you like Argentina) and he ended up being the owner, so boom, two free dinners! Wa hooo.
We went to eat at a Mexican restaurant down the road from our house, and it was amazing. Argentine food can be wonderful, but pretty much has the same flavours and same types of food. It doesn't matter if you go to a fancy place or a normal place, you'll find: pasta, pizza, meat, empanadas, and salad. In a city with millions of restaurants, its quite rare to find something other then these 5 plates. So as much as we like this food, the Mexican restaruant was something different and therefore fantastic. We still eat ice cream everyday, (no I'm not exaggerating... EVERY day, rain or shine) and our cooking at home is getting better and better.
We are hosting quite a few parties at our appartment, it's a lot of fun to have everyone over with good music and munchies, and I'll attach some pictures of our little fiestas.
Oh, and we're going to Uruguay. We have to get out of the country every once and a while since we're on tourist visas, so
Inspired by art
After a modern art show we were inspired to create our own "art"
Enjoy... a friend of ours is going over for Easter break and invited us along with her. The office we went to to buy the boat tickets was like walking into the future: massive with fancy desks set up at 2 meter intervals all black with two huge black leather chairs for customers, and TV screens on the walls showing some destinations they went to. To top it off, when you walk in there is a body length tv screen that is activated by people approaching, so that a women pops us welcoming you and informing you all about the company, the places etc... it was a bit creepy. It was kind of cool, but I think they overestimated the demand of people going to Uruguay as there was only us, and a gang of old American tourists... the rest of the travel agents were busy trying to look busy I think.
The classes in school are going well, our Literature professor is amazing, she is very intelligent and very interested in what she's teaching. Our poli sci class is a bit of a dissapointment since the professor is brand new and doesn't really know where to start out with this

With this piece I hope to portray "Discrimination in the 40's" (Jenica chose the topic!) big group of stunned, wide eyed foreigners. The econ prof is great because he cracks himself up every 5 minutes, and isn't you're average North American economist... he's seen the failure of neo liberal economics with the capital flight and currency crisis of Argentina as well as realising that in a country with 50% of the population living under the line of poverty, the "trickle down effect" doesn't exist. This coming from an economist, is rare. Our Tradiciones and Cultures professor scares me a lot. What ever work the class has to do is torn apart when the professor reads the work out loud and promptly slams it down on the table saying, "Garbage... Gerbage... this student doesn't knw what he's talking about... Garbage...." etc... fortunatly the class is very interesting and the mark we get in it doesn't transfer over to UBCO regardless if we pass or fail... phew.
Well that's all I'm going to write for now, I'll post up some pictures and then pass the computer over to Jenica so she can write her share!
Hope you are all doing well,
Lots of love
Lindsay
(PS - we were really bored one night and inspired by some
modern art we saw with our friend Miguel, so we decided to put our own turn on art in the apartment... some of the results are shown below😊
