Then it was time for another bus ride (this time around 20hrs bus ride) to Buenos Aires. The scenery leaving Bariloche was amazing with all the lakes and mountains, but as we moved further away it took a turn to plains and not much to look out of the window.
We arrived in Buenos Aires very early in the morning so after checking in hostels I went for a walk around Palermo and the Botanic Gardens. Palermo area reminds me a bit to the neighbourhood of Gracia in Barcelona, with little trendy shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants. Back at the hostel I met some people so we all went for dinner to a nearby restaurant recommended by one of the girls at the reception, called la Parrilla Don Luis, and wow, it was an amazing experience, and cheap too!! They showed us the different cuts of the meat and believe me they were all very big, and looked so tasty. Most of us went for the rib eye and I had to say that I struggle to finish it (and knowing me this is not normal, so imagine how big it was!!). Then back to the hostel to have some nice
Argentinean wine.
The following day I tried to get up early to do a city tour but couldn’t so in the morning I end up relaxing at the hostel and did some e-mails. For lunch I had some empanadas again as they are very nice and a very cheap lunch. Early afternoon I started walking around the city to reach the starting point for the tour in Recoleta and I had some time to spare so I went inside the famous Recoleta Cementery where Argentina’s elite rest in ornate splendour. After more than 10 min walking around I finally found Evita Peron’s grave, which of course, is the most famous one here. The first stop on the tour was this gigantic metal structure in the shape of a flower (which closes at night). We went also through all the centre, whilst our guide was giving us some important facts about Argentina, its history and people. We also stopped at La Casa Rosada (the government house) and the famous balcony, where vibrant Evita energized adoring crowds during the 1940s. Another of the stops was La Boca neighbourhood, with the famous football stadium and Caminito Street, which is a short pedestrian walk
with metal buildings. Local artists display their colourful paintings. I have to say this was my favourite place and so different from Spanish arquitecture. This area was the legacy of painter Benito Quinquela Martin. For dinner I went again to Parrilla Don Luis, with an American girl I met at the hostel, but this time I couldn’t finish the steak! Shame on me, but it didn’t go to waste as took it home. Then we went for a little bit of tango dancing to La Viruta. We had lots of fun there, but I still prefer salsa.
