Avenida Nueve de Julio
Looing north towards the obelisk. This was in the middle of my marathon walk. Disclaimer: I have no pictures uploaded yet because this computer is too old to recognize my camera. I tried to go to an Internet Cafe near here a bit ago but it was full. I will try again later tonight and hopefully have some pics to go along with commentary.
Woohoo!!! I found a different Internet cafe that is much better and closer and pretty fast - and my camera works here. Enjoy!!!
But first a bit about Day1's night. I actually had a very good night last night. I was about to just go walk around at about 7pm and try to find something quick to eat when a girl who is staying here said she'd join me. Perfecto! Ketarine is her name (I think) and she's from Belgium, but speaks perfect Spanish, French, Flemish, and darn good English as well. Anyway, we went to this very local (ie. cheap) restaurant near here that was excellent. It was so cool - it was attached to an indoor soccer facility - so I got to watch soccer with my meal. I had a HUGE salad, 3 HUGE pasta thingies (gnocci maybe) and a bottle of wine and a
dessert (some chocolatte cake like thing that was excellent) for right around 7 dollars - including the tip. Que Bueno! Turns out Ketarine moved here for a man - and has since split - so she's trying to figure out if she should stay here or go back to Belgium. Anyway, she's my first friend here - so that's good. After dinner we actually talked to the soccer guys and they invited me to play with them this Sunday at 8pm somewhere about 20 minutes from here by foot - so that should be fun! After that we just walked around a bit and found a supermarket and loaded up on water (and I bought some good beer too).
After coming back to the hostel we just hung out with the workers at the hostel and a couple of other travellers. I ended up watching a most serious game of Argentinian Risk - the game of World domination. It was quite cool to listen to them in Spanish and try to understand what the hell they were saying. I probably understood 25% of it - so I was pretty pleased with that.
On to today.....
So I have
Plaza San Martin
Looking out to a clock tower. Very beautiful... no watch so I slept until I woke up - which was about 10am. I got up and researched Spanish schools for a couple of hours before setting out to visit a few of them. They were all in the center of town, which is a short subway ride away. I have been on alot of subways throughout the world, but none have been as crowded as BA's. Wow, talk about sardines. Anyway, I walked ALL OVER the center. I have no idea how many miles i walked, but it was alot. I saw 3 schools and they were all very nice. I have no idea how I will choose. I think I will search Palermo tomorrow for some schools, they would be closer to me. I took some pics of some very nice parks in the Center - Plaza San Martin was especially nice. Anyway, I took the subway back at around 4 or 430 pm and it was even more packed if that was possible. But I made it - I was in the center of the car and the only one tall enough to brace myself by touching the ceiling. I was walking back and found a
Plaza San Martin looking other way
This was a really nice park. I actually was looking for a 4th school and walked too far and ended up here - a nice mistake. watch store. I ended up going in and buying a nice digital watch for 34 pesos - which is about 11 or 12 dollars. There was the owner (Sandy) and his buddy (Raul) there and they started talking to me - asking various questions. It's kinda funny that many people here think I'm from Germany - no idea why - but that's the first country they guess that I'm from. When I say I'm from the US, I inevitably get the Bush questions. Do you like Bush? What do you think about Iraq? They seem relieved when I tell them I hate Bush and think Iraq was a huge mistake. Anyway, they were very nice to talk to - and only in Espanol I might add.
So I'm back at the hostel now and have met 2 more women, one from Italy and one from New York who have invited me to see a Tango show tonight in San Telmo. So I have to go get ready for that now. I promise I will find an Internet Cafe tomorrow that will accept my camera and will post some pictures very soon. Until tomorrow!!!!
Hasta Luego!

Mr. Socialite
You've been in the city less than 48 hours and already you have a more active social life than I ever did!
