Hiroshima - Peace Memorial Park

Children's Peace Memorial - inspired by bomb survivor Sadako who developed leukaemia at the age of 10. She believed that if she could fold 1000 paper cranes (a symbol of longevity and happiness) she would recover. She was only able to fold 644 before she died, but school friends folded the remaining 356 and buried these with her.
