Kumari Devi
She is the living goddess, selected from a caste of silver/goldsmiths, after fulfilling 32 criterias, including the sound of her voice. During the prelimary round of selecting a goddess, the potential goddesses are kept overnight in a room with 108 buffalo heads, with scary, masked men shouting and dancing. If she can stand that w/o being frightened, then she is the new Kumari. Once she reaches puberty, aka period, she is no longer a goddess, but a mere mortal. Interesting~ eh?
