Il Duomo de Firenze

The Cathedral of St Mary of the Flower complex comprises three buildings as shown here. The Baptistry in front, the Campanile (bell tower) and the Cathedral with its dome in between. The cathedral's construction took 140 years, starting in 1296. It replaced a 5th century church that was crumbling with age. The Baptistry is 200 years older. The Campanile was built in the mid-1300s: despite the 1348 Black Death catastrophe.
