HE SAID... Today we were travelling southwest from Merida to Palenque. We woke early, as we had an eight hour bus trip ahead, and we needed to leave for the bus station at 8am. Peaceful Palenque
I visited lots of Mayan ruins and so agree that Palenque and Tikal are my favorites, especially as they are surrounded by lush jungle. Such a great feeling of discovering temples and your aqueduct here, once you're out of the main excavated areas. How great that you got to explore four sites! Also glad you arrived safely, but got to have a taste of wild, Latin American bus drivers. And as usual, very clever to find fab food, even in a small town!

Re: Peaceful Palenque
We loved the ruins, but I think the jungle walk stole the show a bit. I still get excited thinking about making our way through that bat cave of an aqueduct! It hasn't been difficult to find good food on this trip... bad dishes have been few and far between.
