A huge wooden carving of a mountaineer

On the way back to Ortisei we passed this huge sculpture carved out of a huge tree trunk. It was several metres tall. The valley is known for wood carving and sculpture and you can find them in sections, the streets and shops.

It poured down over night and cleared for the day. It appears that the Val gets 300 fine days out of 365. That is pretty amazing given that it's 1500m absl and amongst mountains.
