We slept on the futon mats instead of beds, and I officially want to switch to a futon forever. I'll use use this caption to discuss the onsens- Basically, procedure is, you go to the basement where the onsen is, and divide into the men and women locker rooms. You strip down completely, and go to the room with the hot spring. There, you find a shower station and clean yourself completely. This keeps the water in the onsen clean so they don't need to add any chemicals. It's a little uncomfortable, especially being a foreigner surrounded by aging, glaring Japanese men, but it's one of the nicest experiences I've had here. We ended up going three times.
