Drenched in a tropical thunderstorm I peer through the doorway into Ernest Hemingway’s writing room, the top room in an observatory adjoining Finca Vigia his home on the outskirts of Havana. His typewriter, a battered old black machine, still has a sheet of paper in it. Here it is that he wrote his Pulitzer winning book The Old Man and the Sea. We are not allowed inside.
