Coastal Arch

The cliffs at Cathedral Cove are composed of ignimbrite (aka tuff), a volcanic rock made of glass, ash and pumice. The ignimbrite erupted 7.8 million years ago and has since been eroded by water and wind creating beautiful geologic features like this coastal arch. PS. I did a project for my Geology of New Zealand class on these formations.
