We took Nana and Pop-pop back to Arenal to hike to the lava field. Cool! and a bit scary! The trail takes you through some grassy forests, then jungle then to an area that was a lava flow back in 1992. It is really incredible – you’re walking through a jungle, then you come to a wall of boulders that rises 30 or 40 feet straight up in front of you. After you climb up to the top of this you can really visualize that the whole area was jungle then there was an eruption and this huge trail of boulders (just like the ones we’d seen rolling down the side of the volcano, except a lot more) just bulldozed through.
