Reluctantly, I bought a direct ticket from a shop on The Khao San Road. If the Lonely Planet is anything to go by, they recommend that you don’t do this as there are always hidden costs involved. They travel company will always advertise the ticket for cheap, in my case it was 350 Baht (about £7).
