Whangamomona se trouve perdu au milieu de Forgotten World Highway (l'autoroute du monde oublié). En 1989 le gouvernement à voulu changer les limites de la commune et la placer dans la province voisine. Mais les habitants de la commune n'étaient pas prêts à accepter un tel changement d'autant plus qu'ils auraient dû jouer au rudgy pour le club concurrent.
