The romance of long distance train journeys has been well and truly wasted on me. The Trans-Balkan Express is the now misnamed service from Budapest to Thessaloniki, 15 years ago the route would travel through the former Yugoslavian countries in around 24hrs, now it winds it's way across to Bucharest and Sophia finally arriving in Thessaloniki 36 hrs after departure. Nine years of travelblog, nine years of on and off travelling - I started TravelBlog to keep my family and friends in touch with my journey. I've updated the site from all four corners of the globe, and it's pretty much taken over my life now, that and diving.
