Chengdu, the thriving capital of Sichuan Province.
This was my view of Chengdu, one of China's most developed cities during my visit some 15 months ago.
The city has now become the center the earthquake's rescue efforts, as planes and trains bring relief cargo, to be distributed into the surrounding, devastated country side. I understand, that most buildings within the city have survived, having been constructed under strict building-codes. The complying of the codes in the surrounding communities are now under investigation and may cause "heads to roll".
