The Sanctuary: Although Periyar is a tiger reserve no one I talked to had ever seen a tiger there and the main attraction were the elephants. I'm a backpacking physicist and in my search for adventure, wildlife, waterfalls, rugged treks and philosophical discussions with the locals I almost always end up with more than what I bargain for. I've only recently started backpacking and prefer traveling alone since you get to really experience each place you visit as you mingle with the locals and other backpackers on the circuit.
