Inussuk, sculpture by Niels Motfeldt. The sculpture memorializes the inauguration of Greenland's self governance in 2009. The three pillars refer to the three peoples of Greenland, north west and east. The stones were collected from the shores of Greenland. DSC_0455

Our first port call in Greenland was Nuuk, the capital. Formerly named Godthåb, the city is the largest town in Greenland with a population of about 18,000. Nuuk is also the world's northernmost capital city, just below the Arctic Circle. The city is spread out and the landscape quite austere looking.
