Sunny – 70°F
Hawaii is now in our rear view mirror as we head back toward the mainland, well actually Mexico. We will arrive in Ensenada at 4pm and leave by 7:30pm, giving us only 4 hours of shore time. But that’s another day. Today is the first of four sea days, providing us with another opportunity to relax and unwind from the hectic schedule we just experienced in Hawaii. Right? Anyway, no alarms this morning and nothing on the schedule. Just hanging out, at least for Karen.
I, on the other hand, have undertaken a commitment to send out a blog and have failed miserably. While I have had good intentions by writing religiously every day and taking pictures at every opportune moment, I have sent out nothing. We spend all day running around, doing various activities either on board or on shore, leaving little time for documentation. Often I find myself lying in bed well past 11pm writing of the day’s events, knowing that if I don’t record it daily, the information starts fading away until it’s all gone. Don’t get me wrong, I like working on this. I need a project at all times, even while
on vacation. Laying on a lounger by the pool can only keep me amused for a short period. After that, I must get up and do something different. This drives Karen crazy, my running here and there. The writing focuses my attention to one thing, keeping me amused and allowing Karen to do what she wants; swim, read a book or watch a movie, all things I find pointless. So the writing continues but at some point my work needs to reach my fans for it to be complete. There, in lies the conundrum. Write, shoot or send. Write, shoot or send. So I write and shoot, letting the sending until I find time. Well, that time is here.
I finally sign up for the internet service for the remainder of the cruise. $70 for unlimited service. Now I must send out the backlog of my daily blogs while continuing to keep everyone abreast of our current activities through additional entries. While Mom relaxes by the aft pool, I assemble and send, assemble and send. It’s a lot of work and I’ll explain the process some time. I like it, otherwise, I’d go crazy sitting around and “relaxing” like
everyone else. I just don’t know how they do it.
I send the first one out by the pool. Then my laptop battery dies. A quick charge finds me in the Atrium listening to ukulele music and sending out #2 while Karen window shops two floors above. Returning to our room to prepare for formal night, I send out #3. I’ve finally got some action.
Tonight is “Surf & Turf” but not really by my definition. It’s lobster with crab cakes. Mom loves lobster so her choice is simple, adding a chowder soup and chocolate crepe. I select the London broil, fruit and Hawaiian lambe. We sit with an oriental couple from Lincoln who have cruised with Princess 26 times. Also in our group are two ladies from Napa, on a real loud mouth who just keeps talking throughout the meal, ending any notion of normal conversation. It happens occasionally.
We leave for our room so I can write today’s blog and spend an hour creating what you’re reading now. By 8pm, we’ll go to see the musical group Mosaic followed by a game show based on “The Newlywed Game”.
Sure enough, we are sitting in the Explorer Lounge and Mosaic is playing some disco and soul music. We are sipping our wine brought by us from our room so again, we are saving money. Unbelievable. After the music, we make our way down to the Vista Lounge to watch “The Marriage Game”, similar to the old “Newlywed Game”. That’s always good for a laugh. Finishing at 10, we make a quick trip to the Lido for some fresh fruit, cookies and milk. Back in the room, a little TV finishes the day off. Tomorrow, more of the same.
