A code in Hammurabi's laws that is not used in the United states is that "if a son strikes his father, his hands shall be hewn off." This law is not used in the united sates because when someone hits their parents they do not really get any serious consequences. This law is very strict with the sons who disrespect their parents in any way of form. They use their hands to hit, so that is why they have to cut them of if they hit their fathers. I think it is serious for people to hit their fathers, but they do not get their hands cut of. They may get slapped by their fathers, but I hardly think that they would cut their own sons hands off. I think that Hammurabi's code was extremely over the top. There are other ways of punishing their sons in a less extreme way. That is why I think they made the consequences to some action less extreme.
