FREEDOM SEA DAYS – TWO IN A ROW
Anyone who has been following my blogs knows how much I enjoy sea days. On the Freedom it’s no different except there are so many more options and yet the ones that appeal to me are basically the same.
Sea Day 1
Breakfast in the Windjammer included really good hash. No smoked salmon today but so many other choices are available. MaryLu and I had a two-top by the window and enjoyed a healthy start to the day. Next was a Q&A with the Captain. Rob Hempstead. He is from RI and his career included factory-fishing ships in the Bearing Sea and the west coast of Africa. He has a great sense of humor and was entertaining as well as informative. He explained for Azipods work and what it’s like working on cruise ship.
Then it was on the poker table were I dropped $60. They run a Hold’em tournament, $99 buy in, $75 re-buy. The winner of each satellite then gets a chance at the final table. Not my kind of game.
Next was a visit to the Cupcake Cupboard. Here I picked up a red velvet cupcake and a carrot
cupcake for MaryLu. That was kind of lunch along with a glass of wine. So healthy!
Changed into a swimsuit and headed to the adults only pool with my Mac and my book. Sat in the sun for a while and then found a table in the shade where I could write my blog. Enjoyed a Lemon Drop and hen headed to the cabin for a nap.
Enjoyed another wonderful dinner with TWO Maine lobster tails. While the rest of the group went to the show I rested for a bit and read my book (I have to turn it in to the library tomorrow). I got up refreshed in time for the cruise directors adult comedy show. It was pretty funny, adult without being raunchy and I was happy to have made the effort. Now it’s time for bed, for real.
I woke up in the middle of the night and found MaryLu bathed in moonlight. Got up and saw an almost full moon reflecting in the calm Caribbean. What a sight.
Sea Day 2
We got up at seven, left the cabin at 7:30 and enjoyed a great breakfast. I had waffles, bacon, hash, juice and coffee. Everything was great. We went to the Solarium (adult only pool) and found great spots and settled in for the morning. The pool water was warm with gentile wavelets, just enough to remind me that we were at sea. I had to finish my book and return it to the library by five. It was late morning when the waiter came around to take drink orders. Joe had asked me to try the Long Island Iced Tea. He asked so little to I sacrificed myself and ordered one. MaryLu would not let me take the plunge alone so she joined me.
To me, it didn’t taste at all like iced tea, rather like a fruit drink. No doubt that it was potent but I’ll stick with my stingers.
We had lunch in the dining room with couples from Ga., VA, two ladies from IL and one from PA. Again, the food was good and the company interesting. MaryLu went to check out the Casino and I found lounge on the deck and read my book. It was getting more like work. When my eyelids drooped, I headed to the cabin to finish the book and catch 25 winks.
We met Ann and Bill for cocktails and joined Bev and Dave for dinner. They were seated next to us at a table for six and no one ever joined them. We had a grand time. I enjoyed a shrimp and Mahi Mahi tempura. It was excellent. The final show is at 9:00 and I’m looking forward to it.
