Our last day in the South Island
From Westport, we drove through the Nelson Lakes National Park and passed through the Buller Gorge. We decided to visit New Zealand's Longest Swingbridge on route. It was surprisingly scary half-way across the bridge, because it was very narrow and the bridge floor was a grated construction, so you could see through it, down to the gushing river rapids below! It started swinging and swaying quite a bit in the middle, and you had to be careful not the lean too much taking photos! At the other side of the bridge we took a walk around the forest, which had historically been a gold mine. There were also signs of faults in the rock face from eathquakes back in the late 1800s. We wandered back to the bridge and watched a couple with a little toddler enjoy the swing back across the gorge. We reckon this was really a nicer option than having to teeter across the swingbridge. For some reason, it felt scarier the second time, maybe because Rach saw something black fall off Jase and it disappear into the rushing river below. It turned out to be the zip off his fleece
mmmmm bit scary!mmmmm bit scary!mmmmm bit scary!

Took a bit more time to get over this one!!
which must have caught on the bridge, no retrieving that now though!

Picton
We drove through the Marlborough wine region, stopping at Blenheim for a shop, where we bought foul yet pricey local white wine. Yuk!! Then we parked up at Picton ready for our morning ferry to Wellington.

Nightmare bridge
That is close to my nightmare bridge scenario. I wonder what happens if someone comes the other way at the same time? Nooo thanks.
