After leaving Wellington nice and early we caught the fery to the South Island at half 7... As we had been out partying in Wellington slept most of the way to Nelson. Arriving in Nelson we stopped off for some wine tasting (not really something someone wants to do with a hangover) however the wine was very nice!!!! that night we had a little leaving party for emiko and becka the girls i met on my first night as they were leaving and travelling a bit faster than the rest of us as there dates to leave were a week early.
the next day woke late and explored the city, did a walk to the centre of new zealand.... was completely different to Wellington and very quiet!!!! had a relaxing day and that evening joe let jolanda cut his hair... which has extremely funny!!
The next morning we set off on the coach at 8.30 to Lake Rotoiti ... was stated to be the most beautiful lake in the world.... it really was!! it was sooooo pretty and had lots of photos! we did three walks round this area again increasing my photos of scenery!! As we drove to Westport
we stuck to the west coast, was very windy but the scenery was AMAZING!!
Arriving at Westport we met a team called Buller Adventures. Here Emma and I decided to go jet boating on River Buller. We were kitted out in yellow waterproofs and hit the river. The boat would go rrrreeally fast towards the rocks and at the last minute steer out! he would also do 360degree turns soaking every1 on board! was really fun!!!
The next morning we had a bit of a lie in and had to be on the bus for 9am! The bus drove along state highway 6 along the tasman shore. was very pretty and we stopped off to do a walk on a mountain next to the shores.... was sooo beautiful and this was the closest point of nz to australia (couldnt see australia tho!!)
the next stop off point on the bus was to Punakaiki pancake rocks, we saw some blow holes from the strong tides blowing into and up the rocks.
We carried on driving to Greymouth where here we were told to stock up on food as the next stop was very quiet and to get an outfit beginning
with P and we were having a P Party. jess and i bought pixie outfits, whilst jolanda went as Paris Hiton, Joe as a punk, matt a penguin and Andy as a pants drawer!!!! the hostel really was in the middle of no where and our rooms were sheds!!! we walked down to the beach which was empty then had a look at Lake Mahiapue.
The party was loads of fun and i woke fully clothes in my pixie outfit wing and all!!!! 😊
We headed off for Franz Josef in the morning arriving at 3in the afternoon. Again i woke early 7am and was taken to the bottom of the glaciers. walked alongside a river to the bottom of the glaciers then putting on crampons to begin our EIGHT HOUR HIKE!!!! the beginning part was really steep and lots of hard work, then the guide took us off track and he had to carve steps in the ice so we could carry on walking. was lots of fun and really enjoyed it but came back soo tired!!!
After Franz Josef we headed off towards Wanaka stopping off at Lake Matheson early in the morning. As we were
early we caught the reflection of Mt. Cook and the Southern Alps on the lake.. definately another photo needed!!! the rest of the drive to Wanaka had stunning views of mountains and lakes arriving late afternoon.
The place we stayed in Wanaka was really nice, showing movies each night. joe, matt, jess, andy, jolanda and i stayed there three nights to rest up and prepare for the next stop which was Queenstown.
In Wanaka we woke late each day and strolled down the the lake. andy and i had a race off the pier but to jump in you had to pass lots off eels!!!!!!!
One of the days in Wanaka jolanda and i decided to hike up a mountain... it was called mt. Iron and was the steepest ever!!!! (am getting a bit of a pro at mountain walks now!) we nearly stopped half way but pushed through to the top to take really good photos and hava feeling of achievement!!
The next stop was QUEENSTOWN (party central). driving towards queenstown the scenery really changed, it became more rocky. we stopped off at a bungy place and i booked onto the Nevis jump. whilst booking i felt like
i was going to be sick so was getting really worried by how i would be just before i jumped!!!!!
Arriving in Queenstown we had a Fergberger... this is a massive burger that is known round the world for being sooo big!! that evening we all went out together and ended up in a place called World bar, this again is world known for serving cocktails in teapots!!!
the days in Queenstown were spend relaxing round lake Wakatipu (there are lots of lakes in NZ) and the evenings in World bar. the third day in Queenstown was bungy day!!!!!! the jump was 134metres... the scariest thing in the world... just as you're jumping out u have this feeling of 'WHAT AM I DOING' it was amazing though!!!!
Leaving Queenstown for Christchurch early on the 19th April this was the longest bus journey of the kiwi experience. there wasnt that much to really see and after a heavy five nights out we all slept on the journey. Jess, Jolanda and i stayed in the girls only bit getting a free towel and free shampoo!!! 😊 that was a treat!! had an early night and the next day we explored Christchurch.
We saw a cool little market, lots of Churches and Cathedrals and museums. At the market there was this man who is apperently in the guinness book of records for his sword eating!! was fun to watch but also a bit worrying as at one point he got out an electric knife and put that down his throat!!
That night was our last one all together so we had a few drinks in the hostel bar then went out. was really good night but also sad as we were all going our seperate ways 😞
the next day i checked into my hotel. i was staying in a hotel as all the hostels were miles away and my flight was very early in the morning when no shuttles were running. i got sooo excited when i checked in that whilst jumping up and down trying to take a picture i fell over!!!!! was a very dumb sarah moment!!!!!!
I woke at 3.30 am and headed to the airport across the road...... Next stop.... Brisbane!!!
