This was us ready to go boarding, but the wind prevented the mountain from being opened ...... doh !
Still loving the van, gives that bit more freedom that traveling from hostel to hostel does not offer....but boy we've brought our bad weather luck with us (remember Kath when we were in Mexico and it was their coldest winter ever), well we've done it again, snow showers and roads closed at the moment.

Managed to get out snowboarding a few days ago at a place called Mount Hutt, the weather was lovely then (for snowboarding). You arrive & stay at the local town (Methven) & then get bussed up the mountain to board. As its so close to the sea the weather is very changeable & they close the mountain when the wind picks up. We managed to get most of a decent day boarding but the next day was too windy & in true van style we packed up and drove on (cos we can). The snowboarding was great, there were so few people and quite a lot of powder to go round. The crazy thing was that from the top of the mountain you were sitting in snow (true snowboarder stance), looking out at green lush countryside with the sea visible in the distance.... not a

Not a bad view of the mountain from the town !
view we've experienced before. Going to try snowboarding on another couple of mountains before we leave the south island, it's great having the choice! The pictures are of the morning of anticipation, we were ready (from 6.30 in the morning like the keen bods that we are)... but the mountain spoke & said "no"!
