Yes i know what you are going to say....And yes i know it has been a lomg time since my last blog.
The three of us are still in the South Island. This blog will be focusing on the top half including Bleinheim and Kaikoura.
We traveled from the North to South Islands via the ferry. I don't mind ferries but i felt kind of sea sick on this one. We took the camper van over with us which was good in a way but very expensive. We stayed in Blenheim for the night. Didn't like the area. Full of horrid youths intent on causing trouble and being very loud. (How old do i feel!) We pulled into the caravan park and Sarah managed to crash the van into a roof. Oops. Luckily the van was intact, however most of the roof ended up on the floor.
The next day we traveled to Marlborough the main wine making district. There was just one vineyard i wanted to visit. Cloudy Bay. The wine here is marvelous. We tried several varieties and bought a couple of bottles each. Had a good time there. We traveled South towards Kaikoura. This
is a town famous for its whale watching. The weather was a lot colder in the South Island. I had bought a pair of thermals so i was toasty under my clothes. I think the other two got a bit cold. We went out on a boat trip to see the whales. The sea was rough and buy the end of it 60% of the passengers were being sick. It was horrid. I am pleased to say i wasn't one of them, neither was Debbie. Sarah wasn't so lucky! We did see a couple of whales though, including Sperm and Hump back whales. They were good to see, but not half as good as the dolphins we had seen in the North Island.
We stayed in Kaikoura for 2 days before heading further South. At this point we realised our trip was to be cut short. Money was getting tight and our Fiji accommodation hadn't been arranged. We decided to cut the Fiji part out and head home after New Zealand. STA the travel agents assured us that any change in ticket would cost around 25 pounds. After several phone calls and some heated conversations we were parted with
near 100 pounds. To make matters worse we had to go to Christchurch to pick them up. So we made a brief one night stop in Christchurch to pick up the tickets before heading towards Franz Joseph glacier.
