Edit Blog Post
So, here a short blog about the first week and a half of travelling with my brother through the north island.
We got ourselves a litlle campervan to be a bit more flexible and cause a lot of havoc on the streets. :-)
After picking him up at the airport we first went to Rotorua for a couple of days to see Hell's Gate Geothermal reserve and a really great Maori concert.
Then it was off to Taupo for some kayaking to see the maori stone carvings. later that day we went to the Huka falls and then enjoyed a nice and relaxing evening near the marina.
But then we were headed to Mordor (Tongariro National Park). We hiked up to the Tama Lakes and had the opportunity for some really great pictures. What an exhausting day!
After spending the night in nearby National Park Village we drove south to Wanganui to take in the beautiful river panorama and then parked the car in Foxton for the night.
Off to the capital the next day we first went to the zoo to see some kiwis and other funny but fascinating local wildlife (esp. the cute little Kunekune). We spent a second
day in Wellington to do some sightseeing and visit the Weta caves - not really a cave but actually the place where magic is done... That's where films like Lord of the rings and other Peter Jackson movies were made.
On our last day in the capital we went to Te Papa (a really great museum) to learn a lot more about New Zealands rich history and MOST important we also learned to do the Ka Mate Haka, one of New Zealands most know Maori war dances.
Was ein anstrengender Tag!
