Me clinging for dear life to one of the suspension bridges - I'm not great with heights.
22nd - 23rd December 2008 Waihi & the Karangahake Gorge

We stayed on a very pretty little site in Waihi, not far from the Karangahake Gorge, which is where a lot of the gold-mining used to take place. We walked around some of the gorge, which was very dramatic and stunning. We did the 'windows walk' which takes you through some of the old mining tunnels, with 'windows' in the rock where you can see out to the gorge. There were suspension bridges over the river, which were fun. We also drove up to see the waterfall there.

Later we went to Waihi Beach where Rob taught me to bodyboard in the surf. He was pretty good. I was okay, but couldn't really get my timing right. Practice will make perfect!

This was where we stayed so that we could visit the gorge. There were loads of ducks and chucks and we were allowed some free fresh eggs - yummy!
