We heed oot East to bide wi Scottish pals of Emma's mither for twa days, for a wee slice of haeme fra haeme. Gisborne, or 'Gizzy' as it's known to the locals, is the first place in the world to see the sunrise each morning.
We first-foot on Lesley and Barry's new hoose, where they have lived for just a month, and indulge in some fantastic Scottish hospitality, compounded by 1.) abundant bottles of wine they made themselves in a local vineyard, 2.) the fact they know the only kiteboarding dude in town
We arrange to meet Andrew on a "calm" beach outside Gisbourne, which turns out to have some pretty mean surf compared to millpond Melbourne. Paul braves it, and spends an enjoyable couple of hours being tossed around in the surf, managing his first (intentional) jump.
Waving goodbye, we hud the road to Napier, which was flattened by an earthquake in the 30's and rebuilt completely in art-deco style.
