Arriving in Wellington was like coming home to San Francisco - although a little smaller... The city geography is hilly and many of the houses are Victorian style. They have a cable car as well, although the car is connected to the cable and pulled by it (a little different than SF). We started the day by taking the cable car to the top of the line, which also brought us to the Carter Planetarium and the Wellington Botanical Gardens. After heading back down the cable car we toured the NZ parliament buildings (aka "the beehive" - the building looks like a hive) and we actually sat in on one of their sessions which we thought to be quite livley, apparently they always are. The members of parliament argued a bit and interupted eachother. In the afternoon we walked around the Wellington City Art Gallery and the Te Papa Museum. Pat's favourite exhibit was the contemporary popcorn pyramid. : )
