Nice on a clear day Wellington does summer so well, I feel I have to make the most of every available opportunity & as a consequence am exhausted - but in a good way! The days are definately getting shorter & the nights colder, so autumn is on it's way. Getting up at 6am is not as easy now as it was when I first got here! That didn't take long, did it?
Cuba St carnival was a long day of (more) live music, socialising & sunshine! I took some photos of the night parade, but they were terrible so got deleted. You could always have a shoofty through the blogs & see if anyone else has posted some.
Last sunday was a glorious day in Wellington. Normally the coast has better weather than the city so we headed up SH1 and had lunch at a lovely cafe in Paekariki. By the time we had finished the clouds had come over & the breeze started - time to head back to Wellington & see what it's like there. Still sunny & warm enough to have a paddle & sit on the beach. Lesson learnt - if it is good in Wellington, stay put &
Harbour view
The flat bit is the airport runway make the most of it!. Finally got round to trying the Chocolate Fish cafe -a bit of a Wellington icon. Fabulous milkshake! Apparently their corn fritters are pretty good too. I shall end up looking like a corn fritter soon. Well I suppose it makes a change from turning in to a mussell!
St Anthony took a break from finding me seats on rush hour buses and amazing parking spaces and came up with some flat mates!
Dana (dutch) & Roberto (Chilean) have just arrived in NZ for a year and moved in 2 weeks ago.
It's nice to have the company & the $. They seem really lovely and the cats approve, so I think it'll work out well.
We went to the flicks on saturday - my third trip this year. Me, who normally goes once a year. We saw Blood Diamond, which was pretty tough stuff. Definately the most powerful of the 3 - mind you it was up against 'Holiday' - cute (by the way, I am in love with Jude 'I'm gorgeous & I know it' Law) and 'Casino Royale' - fantastic (I am also in love with Daniel 'phwoar' Craig. Fickle, hey?)
My christmas prezzie from Mary Jane & David was a ticket to 'An afternoon in Vienna'. A concert by Wellington Orchestra in the gardens of government house. My prezzie to them was sand chairs to take to said concert! So, the concert was last saturday and it was absolutely lovely, apart from the 'concert host' who kept popping up between the pieces to tell us about them. She was a bit annoying, but the whole day was relaxed & informal and I think the idea was to appeal to the masses who would probably only ever see the orchestra at that type of event, rather than a night at the symph. So I should stop being a snob about it, really.
Work is still going really well. However, there is a definate down side, and that is the amount of food that is constantly about. There is a bake-off rota, so each week someone whips up a storm in their kitchen and brings it in to share. Sometime savoury, but usually sweet. I am very impressed with the high standards and thinking of contracting my turn out to MJ. I reckon a nights baby-sitting should be enough. The drug
lunches here are impressive - catered. Not soggy sandwiches from the supermarket. When someone leaves we have morning tea for them. Everyone brings in a plate of something, often homemade. Last friday we had a celebratory lunch as Anne (my boss) and Yvonne (production p'cist) have both been here for 30 years. Can you imagine? 30 years?
I am off to Christchurch in June for a one day study-day/conference, which'll be good. A refresher on nutrition & oncology. And I am on the social commitee for the big annual conference that we are organising. I definately got the best bit - organising the parties!
I have just booked my diving refresher. Should have done it earlier to make the most of the good weather. There are quite a few divers amongst work colleagues & Wellington has a pretty good diving scene, so that'll be nice to get in to. There is also a good chance I'll get some dive-master work, which'll be fun.
Still no word on my shipping. MAF were keen to have a look at it, so not sure when I might get it. In the meantime I am still using a whole heap of
lounge
It's a bit sparse, but has the essentials! borrowed stuff and eat my cereal out of a 'Buzy bees' bowl every moring & drink my coffee out of a 'Thomas the tank enginge' mug! The guys at work laugh, 'cos my morning coffee comes in a bright yellow & green thermos with an equally bright orange lid! It cheers me up in the morning, so who cares?!
There are some more photos to come - will try & add on at the weekend. Cats are well.

Still in KSA
Well it loooks ptretty much like you are getting settled in in wellington. I like the look of the house, I remember in that city that the separate houses were almost stacked vertically on top of each other. So back into diving too. I remember looking forward to getting back into cold water, but it didn't last long though! Do you want me to tell you about last weekends trip to the Ann ann? take care love pete
