You must understand, the bag is my burden. You must understand, the bag is my burden. You must understand, the bag is my burden.

You can't carry it for me Nick, but you can carry me! Come on!
Having consulted our maps and guides hard we decided to skip most of the South, East, West and North of North Island. Fortunately that leaves us a little bit in the middle. First stop was Tongariro where we walked the "Tongariro Crossing" ( Billed as the best one day walk in New Zealand ). Basically it takes you about 17km past Mount Doom and Mordor with a fair bit of climbing. For full effect we decided to do it in a major hurricane. Sara now rates "Wind" as her greatest fear ( something I had suspected for some time ) just above "Heights", "Walking" and "Volcanoes". To be fair, it was a little scary walking along a couple of the ridges in 70kmph winds and Sara did only sit down and cry once. Otherwise it was quite spectacular and a good day.
