Hi All,
We woke up this morning freezing! The temperature has definitely dropped to single degrees and it makes it worse when you go from a powered site with heat blasting in all night to nothing.
We had planned to have a walk around Taupo Centre today; they have shops and loads of restaurants, all on the edge of the huge Lake. Neil nearly won $10,000 dollars on a golf hole in one on the beachfront, he hit the flag but it didn’t stay on so he was so close!!! (That money would have been nice) We had also planned to see what the weather was like to decide whether or not to do that sky dive that got cancelled the other day.
By 11am, the weather was perfect: sunny with a little cloud. We decided to drive the 5km to the Tandem Sky dive centre to see if they had any space… they did in 20 minutes yikess!
We got kitted up again, and got in the plane again, heading for 15,000 feet. The oxygen came out at about 10,000 feet for everyone and the camera went around
the plane many times. I was first and a little nervous as the guy kept opening the door to put the camera out for extra footage for the video people can purchase.
15,000 feet came after being in the plane for about 20 minutes. Neil and I had time for a quick kiss (goodbye) and an exit photo and that was it!!!!
Words cannot describe the rush! For the first few seconds it felt like a fall, with the tumbling out of the plane, and then when we got our buoyancy (horizontal) it just felt like wind coming at us at 200km/hour. It’s hard to see the ground getting closer at first as you’re so high up. I found it hard to open my mouth as the cold air almost hurt my (sensitive) teeth L The camera man was in front the whole time of the free fall (65 seconds), then the parachute came out and everything slowed a lot!! It was about 5-7 minutes of parachute time. We had the opportunity to steer and also gaze at the stunning scenery of the lake and the snow capped volcanoes in the distance: perfect weather!
The landing was very smooth for both of us too. An amazing experience!!! We purchased the video and photos, and got a free t-shirt and buff scarf with the package we chose.
As we walked back to the camper we had stupid smiles on our face. A must-try for everyone!!!!!!!!
We had a cheap soup lunch back in the camper, and chilled for about 30 minutes. We still felt a bit dazed from it. I then drove back into the centre about 3pm; we decided to stay another night at the free park-up place. So we came to the library to charge up the laptop and look at all the photos.
We received a $5 voucher at The Mouse Trap bar and restaurant so we decided to have a free drink for $5 to celebrate before going back to cook tea in the camper. Neil cooked these mini burger and a vegetable ragu that’s was cheap in the bargain section at count down-yum. We also opened the red wine we bought from one of the vineyards.
We were knackered though, so after making a few
calls (to Gemma and my Gramp as it was their birthdays) and after watching 40 minutes of a film we were asleep!
Love V&N
