It's been a while since I've had anything of significance to mention here. It was a holiday (Labour Day) weekend so I took Friday off from work and made a long four day weekend in Rotorua. Rachel and I headed out early Friday for the scenic drive (long way around) to Rotorua by way of Mt Maunganui and Tauranga. Friday we did a short tour of the small and relitively uniteresting downtown of Rotorua... Read Full Entry

Lamb Milking

The best part of the show had to be the lamb milking race. The host invited a half dozen kids up to the stage to participate in an unkown event. He told the kids that they were going to have a race to see who could empty their bottle of milk. He went to a door at the side of the stage, banged on the door, then opened while saying the words "ready, set go". Out came flowing the baby lambs. The girl in blue misunderstood the race, she took the bottle to her mouth and began nursing the bottle. The host ran over and grabbed it from her mouth. The audiance was roaring with laughter. She ended up the winner anyway and collected a small small toy sheep as a prize. Who knows what her parents thought?

We took the gondola up the hill for a better perspective of the lake and to do a couple trips down the hill on the luge.

You race on a plastic wheeled sled that is just inches off the ground. High speed sharp turns and unpredictable racers create an adrenalin rush.

A Maori tribe owns this spa in Hells Gate. I though it interesting that while the Maori deny their cannibalistic past the tribe included this photo op for kids

I don't know if they mean it but I don''t want to test it and end up in a boiling pool of water.

Mud Bath

Sunday was a relaxing day at the spa. I had to do the mud bath/geothermal bath and massage. You first start out in a mud bath (dense watery/mud solution) with a thick layer of local mud. Next you take a cold shower that takes a little too long to wash all the mud off, then you move to the geothermally heated pool that has a faint smell of sulfer.

Spent a good hour in this pool. When I got out I smelled slightly of rotten eggs!
