Roturua- The Smelly City

As you may have noticed from the title, Roturua is a city o many smells. As one of the most interesting geothermal areas of the country it is known both for its links to the Mauri culture as well as its possession of the Zorb.

For hundreds of years the Mauries have been using Roturuas unique geothermic features to help the burden of everyday life. They built winter huts half underground the warn earth, to provide central heating, and even used it to cook. Phillipa (English) and two Sewdish girls came with me to a Mauri cultural center were we saw and learned about the gysers, saw a nocturnal Kiwi bird, a traditional wood carving shop, and the Mauri dance, the most famous of which being the Haka.

Only in New Zealand could you find an activity like zorbing. Zorbing involves being put in a giant inflated ball, which is then filled with water and rolled down a large hill. Yes, people pay for this priviledge, I did it twice the first time with the Swedish girls the second time by myself on a zig-zag track. Both times were awsome cool!
