For Christmas this year, we gave Liz and Allard a trip to Waiheke Island (pronounced why-heck-ee) including ferry and car hire after finding out that they haven't been there for well over 10 years. Great blog about a beautiful island. I had a dreadfully different experience with Waiheke Auto Rentals - the car was covered in bashes and bumps, they charge a- fortune for each kilometre and then charge you on your credit card (with no notification) for exixting damage! Sounds like you had a lucky escape with them to be honest.

we checked over the car for prior damage with the rep before we left - have heard of horror stories of being charged for other people's damage which is not cool at all!
