Landed in Perth from Hong Kong and got my backpack stolen from the YHA so didn’t get to do too much. I saw the inside of the police station & spent a day at the doctors - I am a girl that knows how to have fun!!! The up side to having all my stuff nicked was a guilt free shopping day where I spent an absolute fortune but it made me feel better.

I did manage to get on a wine tour of the Swan Valley which was great - tried loads of wine, some cheese & visited a chocolate factory. Had a day walking round Kings Park which has gorgeous views of the city, a tree top walk & a whispering wall. Spent a couple of nights in Freemantle which is a chilled out town. Went and looked around the prison which was built by convicts to house themselves and then used as a maximum security prison ‘til not very long ago. Little creatures brewery was good for a night out.

From Perth I went south stopping in on the way to Ngilgi Cave which was stunning on the way to Margaret River, where I did more

wine tasting (it was raining what’s a girl to do!). Then on to Albany stopping to do a treetop walk that is 40m off the ground & look at loads of great beaches and coastal scenery.

I then looped back through Perth to go north up the west coast with a tour. We went up to the Pinnacles, which are rock formations in the middle of a load of sand dunes. The second day on to the tour and we got bogged - something our driver Chris never lived down;-) We were luckly rescued by a passer by that had tow ropes but we managed to loose the front bumper which had to travel all the way to Broome in the back with us! We went onto Shark Bay where we saw Stromatolites, shell beach & stopped at Monkey Mia. At Monkey Mia the dolphins come right up to the beach - I got to feed one which was pretty amazing. Coral Bay was great, the reef is really close to the beach and the there is loads of fish. I did a 2 hour glass-bottom boat tour which included snorkelling. It was great although I was a little

freaked out not really being able to swim or see! Hadn’t managed to replace my contact lenses ;-) From there we went onto Exmouth where the reef is close enough to swim out to from the shore. I didn't go as the current was quite strong so got to chill out on the beach instead (what a hardship!).

From there we went inland to Karijini national park. We camped out for 3 nights here & did loads of walking though gorges. I am so unfit! The walks where great, we did everything up to level 5 (for level 6 you need specialist equipment). The walks where climbing along the gorge faces & down ropes. It was definitely worth it though. Loads of really great pools for swimming in & great views. From there we went onto Broome stopping to camp out in swags under the stars.

Just chilled out in Broome, spending most of my time on cable beach. Went to ladies’ day at the races, which was great fun. Had to dash out & buy something to make me look a little girly. Was a little under dressed as there were some fantastic outfits but as the

whole point seemed to be to drink a huge amount so I soon wasn’t worried!

Really loved this part of Oz, even with the hours in the bus between things to cover the huge distances involved (WA = wait awhile). I really enjoyed the Karijini, the gorges where stunning and sleeping in swags although cold was a great experience. Shame that I need my glasses to see the stars! The beach’s where great, you only had to walk a few yards and you would have them to yourself. Everyone I met on both tours where great and made the trips even more fun.
