We packed up our campsite at Silent Grove and started off around 8am. We passed a big King Brown snake on the road (he slithered back into the bush). We collected some firewood and also stopped to see if we could help some people who had lost a wheel on their camper trailer. Unfortunately the axle appeared to have been damaged and they had to unhitch and go back to Imintji roadhouse for help.
We stopped at Adcock Gorge, a very scenic gorge on station land. The track out was a bit rough. We saw a water monitor sitting partly in the water, and also some colourful ants (yellow with a green bottom). There were not many visitors at Adcock Gorge. The signage is not great – there is a fork in the road with no sign, however we passed some other travellers who had told us to take the left turn.
We next stopped at Galvin Gorge. This is another beautiful gorge, just off the road, and very popular. We were there around lunchtime and had lunch there, and a swim. On the walk back to the
car, we saw a big water monitor swimming in the creek.
We fuelled up at Mt Barnett roadhouse. I was hoping to get a loaf of bread, but the truck was en route and they were out of stock. We camped at the Manning Gorge campsite ($60 for two nights). There are flushing toilets and cold showers. After we set up camp we walked down to the river for a quick swim, and I did some washing.
We had a bean curry and rice for dinner, and made damper in our borrowed camp oven for dessert. Alex and Kyle were very keen on the damper.

We did the Manning Gorge swim/walk today. We left at 8am. For the first part of the walk, we swam across the river, floating our dry goods over in a white Styrofoam box. We then walked for about an hour to the Manning Gorge. There are some attractive boabs, grevilleas and hakeas along the path. We also saw a large lizard on the way back. It’s a beautiful gorge with a waterfall and pandanus plants. We
had a swim and Alex, Mike and I jumped in off a rock near the waterfall (it’s deep there). We then had a bit of a climb around the rocks, had an early lunch and headed back to camp, arriving at about 1:15pm. Alex and Kyle handled the longish walk very well. (So did Nanna and Pop!)

We left the Manning Gorge camp site at about 8am and drove along the Gibb River Road, turning north at the Kalumburu Road intersection. Gibb River Road is known to be somewhat rough, and the Kalumburu Road is noticeably worse. It is very corrugated in places. We proceeded to Drysdale River Station where we camped ($40 a night for the four of us). The campsite has hot showers, flushing toilets and even two washing machines. We then reorganised our belongings for our onward journey to Mitchell River National Park tomorrow, when we will be camping in tents as we don’t want to take the camper trailers and caravan (in Mum and Dad’s case) on the increasingly rough roads. We had a nice evening around the campfire.
